Chicagoland Delivers 12th Place to Season Points Contender, Matt Carter

Statesville, NC (09-11-08) ARCA RE/MAX series 2008 points contender and SunTrust Rookie candidate, Matt Carter, posted a 12th place finish in Saturday afternoons’ Chicagoland ARCA 200 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois.

The ARCA RE/MAX series weekend event schedule got underway with SIM Factory Pole Qualifying runs where Matt Carter scored a lap time of 30.626 seconds at a speed of 176.321 mph; a ninth quickest time on the starting grid for Saturdays’ 143 lap, 200 mile main event.

“Practice was my first on track experience at Chicagoland,” stated Carter.  “To make a good qualifying run we just taped up the nose and tightened the car up with wedge, track bar and air pressure.  The car was good – a little on the free side for the first time this year on a 1.5 mile track.  Ninth was good; just about as good as we could do with the motor.”

For much of the race, Carter kept the No. 46 Stine Seed Ford Fusion up front in fifth position.  ARCA officials threw a total six cautions for 43 laps during the Chicagoland ARCA 200 – one of those being allotted to the No. 46 machine of Matt Carter.

“We got up to fifth after the first caution because of a great pit stop and stayed in fifth for a long time until we cut a right front tire and had to pit under green and lost two laps,” said Carter.  “The car was by far the best it has been all year long on the Superspeedways.  I didn’t see one car that was better than us in the corner.  So I was happy with how we ran and how far we have come on the Superspeedways.  I will be glad to get back to Salem.”

Carters’ average finish on the Superspeedway tracks thus far this 2008 season has been 12th;  his highest being fourth at Pocono this past August.  In light of Carters’ Superspeedway debut this 2008 ARCA RE/MAX season, Carter has posted one top five finish and twp top 10’s; finishes posted outside the top ten this season for the No. 46 Carter crew were due to uncontrollable circumstances, such as a cut right front tire like what  the team experienced this past weekend at Chicago.

The next stop on 2008 ARCA RE/MAX series tour will be at Salem Speedway for the Eddie Gilstrap Motors 200 by Advance Auto Parts, where Carter and the No. 46 Stine Seed Ford Fusion will battle 34 other cars under the lights at the famous high banked .555 mile paved oval.  This weekends’ event at Salem Speedway will mark the 18th race of the 2008 season and mark the 84th appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX series since the series debuted at Salem in 1955.  Green flag racing action is slated for 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2008. ARCA will host LIVE Timing and Scoring along with a LIVE streaming audio broadcast of the Eddie Gilstrap Motors 200 by Advanced Auto Parts on www.arcaracing.com.  MavTV will host a broadcast of this weekends’ main event on September 19th at 8 p.m. EST, with multiple scheduled rebroadcasts to follow; please check your local listings for a list of dates and times.

Points Contender, Matt Carter, Makes Chicagoland Debut

Statesville, NC (09-4-08)  ARCA RE/MAX series points contender and SunTrust Rookie nominee, Matt Carter, will make his Chicagoland debut with the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX series this Saturday, for the Chicagoland ARCA 200 in Joliet, Illinois. This weekends’ event  will mark the 17th race on the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX season schedule and the eighth consecutive ARCA RE/MAX event run on the 1.5 mile paved oval since the series debuted at Chicagoland in 2001.

Carter, pilot of the No. 46 Stine Seed/Hantz Group/Nu South Lemonade Ford Fusion, heads into the Windy City straight off back to back dirt track debuts in Springfield and DuQuoin, where Carter proved his driver skills included mastering left turns on clay ovals.  Carter posted a sixth season top five finish at Springfield and an 11th season top-10 finish in DuQuoin for the nine time championship Larry Clement race team.  Coming into this weekends’ Chicagoland debut, Carter sits firmly in third place driver standings, 110 points out from the lead, and  just four points shy of first place position for 2008 SunTrust Rookie of the Year.

“Hopefully, this weekend, we can just stay out of trouble and get a top 10 finish,” said Carter.  “I don’t think we will be in contention for the win unless a lot of guys have trouble.  There are just some things we don’t have that we need to run up front at these horsepower tracks.  However, a top ten or even top five finish is definitely doable for this No. 46 Stine Seed Ford Fusion team.   I am excited to get back to racing on asphalt, but not at a Superspeedway.  I am ready for a short track.”

With only five races left in this years’ 2008 season, including this weekends 134 lap, 200 mile event, Carter is as  focused as he was when he sat in the No. 46 machine in February at Daytona International Speedway.

“I have been focused all year,” said Carter.  “I feel good about what we have accomplished this year and look forward to the last five races.  Once we get Chicago out of the way, I will be relieved and really ready for the last four. Larry told me that after Springfield we had 85 more points at this point than the team had last year.  I thought that was cool.”

The Larry Clement stable will be packing up the piece of equipment that Carter piloted at this years’ Michigan, Pocono and Nashville ARCA RE/MAX series events.  With Kansas and Chicago being sister tracks, the anticipation of what to expect looses its’ momentum.  Even though this is Carters’ debut he can take his experience from Kansas and couple it with his interpretation of the track at and get an idea of where to put the Hoosiers’ of the No. 46 machine on the Chicagoland asphalt.

“I am not sure about where the grooves are at Chicago,” stated Carter.  “I have never been there, only watched it on T.V.  It looks like the bottom is the fast way around.  There’s a little more banking than at the other Superspeedways which makes it faster.  You should be able to hold it out a long time going into the turns and make a big wide arc and be able to drive it in pretty deep, but I really have no idea.   I guess I’ll figure it out after the first minutes of practice – hopefully.”

This weekends ARCA RE/MAX series Chicagoland ARCA 200 event will get underway with series practice slated for

1 p.m. Friday, September 5th with SIM Factory Pole Qualifying scheduled to begin later in the day at 5 p.m. (All Positions/2 Laps).  The race day line up begins with driver introductions to begin at 4:30 p.m. with the green flag start of the Chicagoland ARCA 200 set for 5 p.m. SPEED will host this weekends event by broadcasting in Next Day Del at 4 p.m. EST.  Viewers can log onto www.arcaracing.com for a LIVE audio broadcast and to monitor LIVE timing and scoring of the Chicagoland ARCA 200.

Series Points Contender, Matt Carter, Sets Labor Day Weekend Sights on DuQuoin “Magic Mile”

Statesville, NC (08-30-2008) This Labor Day weekend 2008 ARCA RE/MAX series points contender Matt Carter and the No. 46 Stine Seed/Hantz Group/Fort Dodge Animal Health Ford Fusion team will pack up and head back to Illinois to take on the clay “Magic Mile” at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the Southern Illinois 100, where racing greats such as Ken Schrader and Tony Stewart have captured career victories.  This 100 lap/100 mile battle will mark the 16th event on the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX season schedule and inaugurate the annual three race competition for this years’ 2008 Bill France Triple Crown Award.

It was only two weeks ago that Carter made his first ever career dirt track debut on the one mile clay oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois where Carter scored an impressive sixth season top five finish for the nine time championship Larry Clement Racing team.  Carter slated the No. 46 Fort Dodge Animal Health/Stine Seed Ford Fusion into fourth place at the conclusion of the 100 lap/100 mile race event.

“I think everyone was a little surprised that we ran as well as we did,” said Carter.  “None of us had ever raced on dirt and so we really didn’t know what to expect or do.  A lot of it was probably beginners luck, which you need a lot of luck in this sport.”

In light of Carters’ rookie performance this year in the ARCA RE/MAX series, luck is far from the force that is propelling his feat on the track.  Carter has pure racing talent to see the air and know where the grooves are on the asphalt and now proven on dirt.

“I have heard that DuQuoin is a little tougher track than Springfield and races more like a dirt track,” said Carter.  “I tried to go into Springfield with an open mind and I did take some advice from the guys that had been there before.  It really wasn’t that difficult of a track to get around, I just made sure to drive really smooth, hit my marks, and not overdrive the car or the track; I am going to do the same thing for DuQuoin.  I really just like going out there and trying to figure stuff out on my own first and ask for help later.  For some reason I’ve seemed to be more successful doing it that way.”

This weekend Carter heads into DuQuoin third in championship points standings (only 10 points outside of second place) and he holds the second place slot in contention for this years’ SunTrust Rookie of the Year Award.

The Labor Day race weekend event will get underway September 1, starting with ARCA RE/MAX series practice at 9 a.m. Central followed by SIM Factory Pole Qualifying at 11 a.m. (All positions/1 lap).  The green flag is scheduled to drop for the start of the Southern Illinois 100 at 1 p.m. Central, for 100 laps/100 miles of dirt track racing action.  A LIVE streaming audio broadcast will be available by logging onto www.arcaracing.com along with LIVE timing and scoring.  MavTV will host a delayed broadcast of the Southern Illinois 100 to be aired on September 5, at 8 p.m. Eastern along with scheduled multiple rebroadcasts of the Labor Day event.  Please check your local listings for a list of dates and times or log onto www.arcaracing.com and view Broadcast Schedules.

Points Contender, Matt Carter Earns Sixth Season Top Five at IllinoisDirt Track Debut

Springfield, IL (08-17-08) ARCA RE/MAX Series points contender Matt Carter scored his sixth season top five finish at Illinois State Fairgrounds Raceway by slating the No. 46 Fort Dodge Animal Health/Stine Seed Ford Fusion in fourth place at the conclusion of Sundays’ Allan Crowe 100 in Springfield, Illinois.

Carter got the grass roots race event underway by qualifying fifth quickest during Sunday mornings’ SIM Factory Pole Qualifying runs by clocking in a lap time of 33.258 seconds; placing the No. 46 Fort Dodge Animal Health/Stine Seed Ford Fusion in the fifth position on the starting grid for Sunday afternoons main event.

“I just want to be the fastest driver on dirt who’s never raced on dirt,” stated Carter.  Much to his desire, Carter received exactly what he asked for.

As the 100 mile/100 lap dirt track event got underway, Carter found himself competitively running in the top ten for much of the race.  With just a quarter of the race completed, ARCA RE/MAX officials threw the yellow flag signaling a caution and crew chief Travis Carter made the call to pit.  Carter brought the No. 46 Fort Dodge Animal Health/Stine Seed Ford Fusion into pit road for gas and tire pressure adjustments.  Amidst the pit road congestion, Carter got hung up in lap car pit stops causing him to lose four to five positions upon returning the No. 46 machine onto the one mile clay oval.

Carter quickly drove back up through the field and tucked himself safely inside the top ten - riding in the seventh position.  With the last 20 laps of the race remaining, Carter proceeded to pick off positions ahead of him and held the No. 46 machine steadfast in the fourth position.  On the second to last lap of the 100 lap event, the last caution of the race came out and the Allan Crowe 100 concluded on lap 102 with a green, white, checkered finish.  Carter brought the No. 46 Fort Dodge Animal Health/Stine Seed Ford Fusion safely across the start finish line to secure a fourth place finish for the No. 46 Larry Clement Racing team.

“We had a good day – finished fourth on our first dirt race,” said Carter.  “It’s better than what I expected we would do.  We passed cars and stayed out of trouble.   It was a little different but it was fun.  We came here not really knowing what to do or what to expect so to come out fourth is really great for us.  We didn’t bring a pit crew up here so the guys had to fill in and they really stepped up.  Dad got in a fire suit and was the gas man for today.  The car handled okay, it was a little tight but overall it handled really well.   It was the first time I had ever driven that car and the first time it had turned laps. I am really proud of my guys for doing a great job today – just a good finish.”

Carter finished fourth in a top ten finishing field of experienced dirt track racers.  He was the only driver in Sundays’ Allan Crowe 100 that finished inside the top five to have never previously raced on dirt.  Carter leaves the Illinois clay third in driver point standings and still in competition for SunTrust Rookie of the Year.

Car owner Larry Clement was very pleased with the race results as well.  “Matt did a fantastic job,” stated Clement.  “To qualify fifth fastest and finish fourth was phenomenal.  He kept the car out of trouble.  Matt was by far the fastest car today out of drivers who had never been on dirt. The crew did a great job on the pit stop and adjusting the car in practice.  Very pleased, because today had the potential to be a disaster, but it was just really great - overall very happy with today.”

The ARCA RE/MAX series will break for this weekend, and conclude in two weeks at DuQoin Raceway for another dirt track extravaganza.  The Labor Day race event will get under way September 1, at 1 p.m. Central for green flag racing action, where Carter and the No. 46 machine will compete for a second season victory.
